Panasonic MC-CG902 Features and Specifications
Panasonic MC-CG902 is dual motor system, with the main 12 Amps motor providing suction and second electric motor powers the agitator (brush roll).
Main motor feature thermal protection system - if the air flow is decreased, thermal protector turns the motor off. If or when that happens, it is important to turn off the unit, unplug it from the wall and clean any clogs and blockages. After waiting for about 30 minutes for motor to cool down and for thermal protector to reset itself, unit is again ready for use.
Power is supplied via 24 feet (~7.3 m) long power cord, supported by foot activated automatic power cord rewind system. Although 24 feet long power cord sounds somewhat short for the main home vacuum cleaner, Panasonic MC-CG902 comes with 6 feet (~1.8 m) long electrified flexible cleaning hose and two metal wands for much longer reach.
Unit weighs 23 pounds (~10.4 kg) and it is not the lightest canister on the market, but during the use most of the weight is on the floor, representing no physical stress to the user.
However, carrying it up and down the stairs could be problematic for elderly people.
Flexible cleaning hose features 360°swivel mechanism, making maneuvering around floor objects and obstacles much easier.
Additional cleaning tools are carried onboard so that they are available at the moment notice.
Unit is controlled via switch on the handle, allowing the user to turn the unit on/off and, if required, to turn off agitator/brush roll, in order to protect sensitive floors.
Main nozzle is powered with second electric motor. Its cleaning path width is 14 inches (~35.6 cm) allowing the user to quickly clean larger area with less passes. Also, dual edge cleaning design helps the user to clean wall and baseboard edges quickly, with no area being uncleaned.
In order to protect the agitator motor and its belt, main nozzle motor feature motor stop system which turns off motor when the agitator is blocked by some foreign object like a sock or small toy or similar.
Note: if the agitator motor is stopped, main canister motor still works creating suction. If that happen, turn off the vacuum, unplug it from the wall, remove blockages, press reset button and than turn the unit again on. Panasonic MC-CG902 is simple to use canister vacuum, but just in case, read the manual before the very first use.
To help with the cleaning in low-light conditions and to help with the spotting the dirt on bare floors, main cleaning head features strong headlight.
Soft bumper on the main cleaning nozzle help the user avoid making marks and scratches on the furniture and walls, but nonetheless, be careful near such objects and other obstacles.
To help with the cleaning of various surfaces, motorized nozzle has 4 height settings which are adjusted manually, depending on the floor type being vacuumed:
- 1: for most carpets and bare floors,
- 2: for low to medium pile carpets,
- 3: for medium to high pile carpets,
- 4: for high-pile carpets and thick area rugs.
Panasonic MC-CG902 doesn't not feature electronic suction control - for cleaning more sensitive surfaces, suction can be decreased (and increased) by opening (and closing) suction controls holes.
Vacuumed dirt is collected in disposable vacuum bags. Since vacuum bags are important for proper operation of the unit, be sure to use OEM only vacuum bags - they help filter the vacuumed air, without too large pressure drop.
When the bag is full or almost full, replace it with a new disposable bag. Bag replacement can be done quickly and easily, without making a mess.
Motor safety air filter is motor pre-filter and it protects the motor (hence the name) from the harmful particles that could damage the main motor in many ways.
Exhaust air filter is high performance HEPA filter and it captures 99.97% of 0.3 microns or larger particles, which is very important, especially for people with asthma, allergies and similar issues.
Note: air filters are not washable and should be replaced periodically, depending on the vacuum's use. Generally, replace them annually. Panasonic MC-CG902 is designed for dry dirt only and vacuuming wet or even moist dirt should be avoided. Also, never use the vacuum cleaner without the air filters.
Panasonic MC-CG902 Cleaning Attachments
Panasonic MC-CG902 comes with several cleaning attachments that are carried onboard the unit. These attachments include:
- the fabric brush may be used for cleaning surfaces like furniture, drapes and similar. Due to the vacuum's strong suction and relatively small tool opening, consider lowering suction before using this tool on sensitive surfaces.
- the dusting brush is used for cleaning dust and similar dirt from stairs, drapes, furniture, walls, bookshelves and other similar surfaces.
- the floor brush is used for vacuuming bare floors and other similar surfaces like walls, stairs, etc. Swivel neck help the user maneuver the tool around and under furniture and other objects.
- the crevice tool is designed for cleaning narrow and tight places and openings like between cushions or mattresses, corners, edges and similar.
These four additional tools complement each other and can clean almost all types of dirt from surfaces commonly found at homes and apartments. However, Panasonic MC-CG902 doesn't feature motorized brush tool which can be very helpful to pet owners - on the other hand, due to its design and potentially really strong suction, the fabric brush does excellent job when suction is sufficient.
Long Story Short: Panasonic MC-CG902 is strong and sturdy corded, bagged canister vacuum cleaner, which does its job very well. And it should since it is far from being a cheap vacuum cleaner.
The only thing that we don't like is the fact that it comes with only 1-year limited warranty. Units is this price range should have much longer warranty. However, there isn't (much) complains regarding the quality of the products by its users, so such short warranty shouldn't be of an issue, if you are looking for such unit and you don't mind paying little bit more.
