Bissell Zing Bagged Canister Vacuums - Models 4122 and 1668
Bissell Zing 4122 and 1668 are very affordable and versatile bagged canister vacuums. They are able to clean various types of floors and elevated surfaces and are suitable as the main vacuums for smaller homes and apartments. If they fits your needs, they can be used as the main vacuums even in larger homes and apartments. Model 1668 is somewhat newer, and it differs in several details from 4122 model, but their general characteristics are very similar.

Both units come with multi-floor main cleaning nozzle, telescopic wand, flexible hose, disposable vacuum bag, and two mechanical filters. Also, they come with additional cleaning tools for cleaning elevated and hard-to-reach surfaces.

Bissell Zing 4122 and 1668 are very lightweight units - they weigh around 8 pounds, and the most weight is concentrated in the canister itself allowing the user to easily clean with the telescopic wand and main multi-floor cleaning nozzle.
Motor of the 4122 model draws slightly more current (10 Amps vs 9.5 Amps), but thanks to the improved design, both models have approximately equal and rather good suction. Also, to be able to clean from various surfaces, both models come with variable suction control.
Note: all controls are on the canister - some can be operated by the foot, but some requires bending, which can be of an issue for people with lower back problems.
Power cord is of the same length - 17 feet (~5.2 m) and at first it appears short. However, these are canister vacuums which come with flexible cleaning hoses and telescopic wands, greatly improving cleaning range from the single wall power socket.
Although very affordable units, Bissell 4122 and 1668 come with automatic power cord rewind systems - not commonly found on the vacuums in this price range.
Also, both units come with full bag indicator and two mechanical filters - one pre-motor and one post-motor mechanical filter. Filtration is not HEPA grade, but it is more than acceptable.
Cleaning path is 10.3 inches (~26 cm) wide - such width enables the user to clean large area relatively quickly, but also keeps the width of the main floor cleaning head narrow enough to be able to clean around the objects, furniture and other potential obstacles where classic uprights can't reach.
Bissell Zing 4122 vs. Bissell Zing 1668 - Differences
Although these models are very similar, there are few important differences:
- hose length: 4122 comes with 5 feet and 1668 comes with 6 feet long cleaning hose. This is not large difference, but in certain situations can be important, especially when cleaning elevated surfaces like stairs, bookshelves and similar.
- dirt bag capacity: 4122 comes with 2 liters and 1668 comes with 2.5 liters dirt bags. This is 25% difference - the smaller the dirt bag, the more often it has to be changed. On the other hand, replacement bags for both models come at very affordable prices.
- cleaning attachments: Zing 4122 comes with Combination Crevice Tool/Dusting Brush and Upholstery Tool, while Zing 1668 comes only with Combination Crevice Tool/Dusting Brush. Some sites claim that Zing 1668 comes with Upholstery Tool, too, and they even include photos of 1668 models with Upholstery Tool attached to the cleaning hose, but according to the official Bissell site, Zing 1668 comes only with Combination Crevice Tool/Dusting Brush. However, if you do need Upholstery Tool, it can be ordered separately. Also, from time to time Zing 1668 can be found on promo sale with Upholstery Tool (or some other cleaning tool) included. Just be sure to verify these details before you order.
- color and design: obviously, these models differ in color and design. Bissell Zing 4122 is purple, while Bissell Zing 1688 is black with citrus lime details.
- motor: 4122 motor draws 10 Amps, while 1668 motor draws 9.5 Amps. Suction is more or less the same: although its motor draws less Amps and its hose is 1 foot longer, 1668's motor is of newer, improved design, providing very similar suction.

These vacuums don't use interchangeable filters and vacuum bags. Since they lack clean filters indicators, it is up to the user to determine when it is time to clean or change the filters.
