Dyson V15 Detect is a convertible, bagless, cordless vacuum cleaner featuring excellent suction and HEPA level air filtration, a broad range of cleaning tools suitable practically for almost all surfaces found at homes and apartments, intelligent reporting, ease of use and maintenance, etc.

Dyson V15 Detect also features one of the strongest suction levels of all vacuums, not only among the cordless units. As one of the premium models, Dyson V15 Detect doesn't come cheap, but just like previous Dyson cordless vacuums, Dyson V15 Detect also has plenty to offer.

Dyson V15 Detect Features and Specifications

Dyson V15 Detect is a 2-in-1 convertible vacuum cleaner designed to be used as a stick vacuum cleaner and as a powerful handheld vacuum.

The conversion can be done in seconds, with no tools required - in order to convert the unit from the stick vacuum to the handheld unit, just remove the wand and attach the required cleaning tool. Similarly, when converting the unit from the handheld vacuum to the stick vacuum, attach the wand and required cleaning tool, and You are good to go.

In the stick vacuum cleaner mode, Dyson V15 Detect features physical dimensions of 10.5 x 9.8 x 49.6 inches (~26.7 x 24.9 x 126 cm), and it weighs 6.8 pounds (~3.1 kg). Also, it features a cleaning path width of 10.1 inches (~25.7 cm), allowing the user to clean large surfaces rather quickly.

Obviously, Dyson V15 Detect is not the lightest cordless vacuum on the market, but it is nonetheless a lightweight to use and very maneuverable unit.

Dyson V15 Detect shares the same design philosophy as previous Dyson cordless vacuums, but it also comes with several innovative features like an improved High Torque Cleaner Head, Laser Slim Fluffy Head, improved suction, a piezo sensor for improved automatic suction regulation, improved reporting, etc.

The dirt cup capacity is 0.2 gallons (~0.76 liters) and features a bottom emptying system, helping the user empty the dirt cup directly into the trashcan without ever touching the dirt.

Dyson V15 Detect features an excellent multistage air filtration system, allowing the unit to capture 99.97% of 0.3 microns or larger particles when using Eco and Auto cleaning mode and to capture 99.99% of 0.3 microns or larger particles when using Boost cleaning mode - air filtration system is based on the Dyson's Cyclone technology with the Dyson V15 Detect featuring 14 concentric cyclones combined with the washable HEPA air filter.

Dyson V15 Detect features a digital LCD screen presenting to the user all relevant information about the vacuum itself and the cleaning task being performed.

Dyson V15 Detect features a piezo sensor that measures vacuumed dirt 15000 times per second, including the number and the size of the vacuumed particles, informing the user in real-time. This feature allows the user to know when the floors and other surfaces are actually vacuumed.

Also, the LCD display shows the user various status messages regarding the unit's condition, like remaining vacuuming time, warnings about the clogs, and similar.

Note: At first, all these features may look overwhelming, but the Dyson V15 Detect is a very intuitive and easy-to-use and maintain unit. But, when it arrives, be sure to read the manual/Owner's Guide thoroughly in order to get accustomed to your new vacuum.

Dyson V15 Detect features three cleaning modes, including:

• Eco Mode features the lowest suction of ~26 Air Watts, with the longest runtime of up to 60 minutes on a single battery charge.
• Auto Mode: in Auto mode unit senses the amount and size of vacuumed dirt and automatically adjusts the vacuum suction. Auto Mode runtime depends on the floor types and amount of dirt, but generally, a single battery charge provides 25-40 minutes of operation.
• Boost Mode: in the Boost mode, suction is strongest - 230(!) Air Watts, making Dyson V15 Detect one of the strongest vacuums on the market, not just among the cordless units. In Boost mode battery lasts only 7-8 minutes, but the vacuum performances are excellent, allowing the user to vacuum even the piles of stubborn dirt easily.

As one can see, in the Boost Mode, Dyson V15 Detect features 100% more suction than the Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner (230 AW vs. 115 AW).

For most situations, Auto Mode is the best option - it improves the cleaning over Eco Mode significantly and improves the runtime over Boost Mode.

Note: when the battery is fully discharged, it takes up to 4.5 hours to fully recharge it. Also, the battery is, for safety reasons, transported in semi-charged condition - when the unit arrives, be sure to charge the battery before the very first use. And if You don't do it, the unit will warn You about it - it is an advanced, smart, digital vacuum cleaner.

Dyson V15 Detect comes with a detachable battery that can be easily attached/detached from the unit - a so-called "click-in" battery.

By having two batteries (additional battery must be purchased separately), the user practically doubles the operating time of the Dyson V15 Detect vacuum - it can operate up to 120 minutes in the Eco mode using two batteries and up to 16 minutes in the Boost mode using those two batteries.

Note: Although the Dyson V15 Detect battery is modern lithium, a power fade-free battery with a low self-discharge rate, users with two batteries are strongly suggested to use both batteries alternately in order to prolong their lifetime.

As one can see, Dyson V15 Detect features a broad set of cleaning tools, making it suitable as the main vacuum cleaner even in large homes and apartments.

Dyson V15 Detect comes with a set of cleaning tools for cleaning homes and apartments from the floor to the ceiling. These tools include:

High Torque Drive Cleaner Head

High Torque Drive Cleaner Head is an improved model over Dyson V11 High Torque Drive Cleaner Head.

High Torque Drive Cleaner Head features its own electric motor that powers the brushroll with two types of bristles for improved cleaning of different types of dirt from different floor types.

Also, High Torque Drive Cleaner Head features Dyson DLS technology that monitors the brushroll resistance 360 times per second, allowing the unit to adjust the power when the vacuum is used in Auto Mode.

And in order to help with the maintenance, High Torque Drive Cleaner Head features an anti-tangle comb with 56 polycarbonate teeth, actively removing hair, lint, and fiber tangles from the brushroll.

High Torque Drive Cleaner Head is the main cleaning tool for both bare and carpeted areas.

However, for areas with mostly bare floors, Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head is highly recommended.

Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head

Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head features a soft and fluffy (hence the name) brushroll suitable for vacuuming various bare floors, including sensitive wooden floors, laminate, vinyl, and similar.

One of the very interesting features of the Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head is the presence of an LED laser, which allows the user to actually see the dirt on the floor - it may look spooky at first, but it is a very useful feature.

Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head with the built-in LED laser ensures thorough cleaning of the bare floors, helping the user to clean faster, saving time and effort.

Note: LED laser in combination with piezo sensor allows the user to monitor the unit's operation - the LED laser allows the user to spot the dirt, the piezo sensor senses the increased amount of dirt, and the unit automatically increases the suction (if used in recommended Auto Mode). It sounds simple, but making it sound simple requires rather advanced technologies.

Both High Torque Cleaner Head and Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head are excellent for cleaning floors. For cleaning elevated surfaces, Dyson V15 Detect comes with several other tools, including:

Combination Tool

Combination Tool is a 2-in-1 cleaning tool. It consists of a wide nozzle cleaning tool and a brush tool. The Combination Tool is a general cleaning tool, allowing the user to switch from a wide nozzle cleaning tool to the brush and back in seconds.

Crevice Tool

Crevice Tool is a long and narrow cleaning tool, allowing the user to clean edges, corners, gaps, crevices, and similar areas that are sometimes hard to reach and clean.

Mini Soft Dusting Brush

Mini Soft Dusting Brush features soft nylon bristles allowing the user to clean sensitive and delicate surfaces and fabrics.

As the nylon bristles glide over the cleaned area, they agitate the dirt, which is then vacuumed into the unit via strong suction.

Stubborn Dirt Brush

Stubborn Dirt Brush features stiff nylon bristles, allowing the user to clean stubborn and tough dirt from the floors and other surfaces.

Hair Screw Tool

Hair Screw Tool is a motor-driven cleaning tool featuring an anti-tangle conical brush that picks up deeply embedded dirt, including dust, pet hair, lint, fabrics, and similar.

Hair Screw Tool is a recommended cleaning tool for vacuuming carpeted stairs, pet beds, and similar carpeted/upholstered surfaces that tolerate such cleaning and that must be cleaned thoroughly.

If these cleaning tools are not sufficient, other cleaning tools compatible with the Dyson V15 Detect can be ordered later.

Some of these tools are:

• Extension Hose increases the reach up to 24 inches (~61 cm), allowing the user to clean hard-to-reach areas, like car interiors and similar.
• Low-Reach Adapter attaches to the wand. It is designed to bend up to 90° allowing the user to reach under beds, sofas, and similar floor objects without too much bending.
• Light Pipe Crevice Tool is a long and narrow Crevice Tool with a LED light, allowing the user to vacuum in low light conditions.
• Up-Top Adapter twists in different positions, allowing the user to clean elevated surfaces.

 As one can see, the biggest change in design was from Dyson V8 to Dyson Cyclone V10 - the dirt cup design was changed, improving airflow, allowing the suction to increase from 115 AW (Dyson V8) to 150 AW (Dyson V10), and now to 230 AW (Dyson V15).

Of course, this suction improvement was also due to the improvements in lithium batteries and the suction motor.

When comparing Dyson V15 with the Dyson V11 models, it is important to note the following:

• Dyson V15 Detect and Dyson V11 Torque Drive feature a dirt cup of 0.2 gallons, while Dyson V11 Outsize features a dirt cup of 0.5 gallons.
• Dyson V15 Detect features the strongest suction,
• Dyson V15 is slightly heavier than Dyson V11 Torque Drive but lighter than Dyson V15 Outsize,
• Dyson V15 is more compact than Dyson V11 Outsize and very similar in size to Dyson V11 Torque Drive,
• Dyson V15 and Dyson V11 Torque Drive come with one battery, while Dyson V11 Outsize comes with two batteries.

As one can see, all three units feature Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Stubborn Dirt Brush, but Dyson V15 Detect comes with an improved High Torque Drive Cleaner Head (which is somewhat narrower than the "older" High Torque XL Cleaner Head), it comes with an excellent Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head and it comes with Hair Screw Tool which is an improvement over Mini Motorized Tool that comes with Dyson V11 Torque Drive/Outsize.

Dyson V11 and V15 cordless vacuum cleaners differ in suction power, available cleaning tools, number of batteries, etc. Thus, they also differ in price:

Dyson V15 Detect vs. Tineco Pure One S12 Plus

Tineco Pure One S12 Plus is another convertible, cordless, bagless stick/handheld vacuum cleaner in many ways similar to the Dyson cordless vacuums, Dyson V15 Detect included.

Tineco Pure One S12 Plus features two interchangeable 2x 21.6V 2.5Ah lithium batteries ensuring a runtime of 2x 50 min (100 min total) in Eco mode and 2x 10.5 min (21 min total) in Maximum Suction mode.

Tineco Pure One S12 Plus is rated at 500 watts with a suction strength of 150 Air Watts, which is weaker than the Dyson V15 suction of 230 Air Watts in the Boost mode.

Also, Dyson V15 Detect features a somewhat larger dirt bin (0.76 vs. 0.6 liters).

Both units, Tineco Pure One S12 Plus and Dyson V15 Detect offer their users Auto suction modes - both units are advanced digital units featuring a full set of sensors and LED/LCD displays.

Tineco Pure One S12 Plus also supports the use of the Tineco smartphone app in order to provide more information about the unit and its condition. Dyson V15 Direct shows all relevant information on the LCD display, requiring no app integration.

The list of cleaning tools also differs - Tineco Pure One S12 Plus comes with Direct-Drive LED Multi-Floor Power Brush, LED Soft-Roller Power Brush, 2-in-1 Dusting Brush, Soft Dusting Brush, Mini Power Brush, Multi-Angle Folding Adaptor, Crevice Tool, Flexible Long Crevice Tool, and Flexible Extension Hose.

Tineco Pure One S12 Plus comes with more cleaning tools and attachments. But, both units feature multi-floor brushroll cleaner heads and bare floor cleaner heads, with Dyson's cleaner heads being more advanced. IMHO, of course.

Dyson's Hair Screw Tool is more advanced than Tineco's Mini Power Brush and is a better cleaning tool.

Other cleaning tools and attachments tools are more-or-less comparable, except that Tineco Pure One S12 Plus also features Multi-Angle Folding Adaptor and Flexible Extension Hose - such cleaning attachments are also available for Dyson V15 Detect, but must be ordered separately.

Personally, Dyson V15 Direct is a better vacuum cleaning system, but it also costs more.

Long Story Short: If You already own a Dyson V11 Torque Drive or Dyson V11 Outsize, You already have a premium cordless vacuum cleaner capable of cleaning the whole house, from the floor to the ceiling.

However, if You are looking for an excellent cordless, convertible vacuum cleaner, consider Dyson V15 Detect - it offers several improvements over "older" Dyson cordless units (which are, nonetheless, still excellent and very capable vacuums), notably Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head and Hair Screw Tool (just to mention a few).
