Motor comes with a thermal protection system - if the air flow is decreased through the vacuum, so is the cooling of the motor. In order to protect the motor from damages, if the internal temperature of the motor goes up, the thermal protection system shuts off the motor.
If that happens, turn off the unit, unplug it from the wall and remove any blockages (empty the 0.45 liters large dust bin, check the air filter, etc.) and after 30 minutes of cooling down, thermal protection system resets itself automatically.

Dirt cup is large enough for quick cleanups. But, it is recommended to empty it after each use.
Dirt Devil Scorpion SD20005RED is intended for dry dirt only and its air filtration system is based on the mechanical air filter.
The air filter itself is washable and may be reused many times - whenever emptying the dirt cup, it is a good practice to tap it onto the hard surface in order to remove fine dust and other debris from its pleated surface and to rinse it periodically using plain water.
Also, after some time, the air filter should be replaced with a new one.
Note: never assemble the wet/moist air filter in the vacuum - it can damage the motor, rendering the warranty void.
