Hoover FH40165 FloorMate Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner
Hoover FH40165 FloorMate Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner is wet and dry hard floor cleaner. It is suitable for cleaning surfaces like sealed wood and laminate, tiles, vinyl, marble and other bare floors.
Unit is based on so-called 'Multi-Purpose Spin Scrub' technology featuring four removable counter-rotating brushes which gently scrub bare floors from all angles.

Unit comes with two different brushes: the 'SpinScrub Wood Floor Brush' and the 'SpinScrub Tile and Grout Brush'. Brush speed is constant and can't be changed by the user.
Also, Hoover FH40165 comes with two tanks, one for cleaning solution and second for dirty fluid.
Capacity of each tank is 48 ounces (~1.4 liters). Unit doesn't come with water heater, but the tank with clean water/cleaning solution can be filled with warm cleaning solution for improved cleaning.
Hoover FH40165 comes with an automatic suction shut-off, which is built into the dirty water tank to prevent it from the overflowing. But, both tanks are transparent allowing the user to monitor amounts of cleaning solution and dirty water and to react before safety mechanism stops the suction.
Note: Cleaning solution can be warm, but not not! Also, it is highly recommended to empty the dirty water tank after each cleaning. Although Hoover FH40165 is simple unit, it is highly recommended to read the manual/instructions before the first use.
Model Hoover FH40160PC is very similar to Hoover FH40165 - main difference is that FH40165 model comes with foldable handle, which helps greatly with storing the unit when not in use.
Hoover FH40165 features two modes of operation: wash mode and dry mode. Wash mode is a cleaning mode, where brushes and cleaning solution combination is used to wash hard floors. Dry mode is used to remove any extra liquid from the floors and to speed up drying.
Also, unit features a so-called 'CleanSurge Control' which allows the user to apply extra cleaning solution to clean stubborn stains and very dirty areas.
Note on cleaning wooden and laminate floors: if the floor seals and finish are without cracks, Hoover FH40165 and similar floor washers/cleaners can be used for cleaning and even polishing floors.
However, if there are cracks in the wood surface, any extra moisture can penetrate the wood and make it buckle or even start to rot.
Of course, floors like tiles or stones are very resistant to moisture and to scratches and using floor cleaners like this can significantly speed up cleaning tasks of such floors.
Unit is powered with 20 feet (~6.1 m) long power cord and personally, it could be longer. If you are going to use an extension cord, note that unit draws only 3.5 Amps and almost any extension cord is thick enough (nonetheless, if you plan on using extension cords, check the ratings!).
Hoover FH40165 doesn't have automatic power cord rewind system - power cord is manually wrapped around cord hooks.
Physical dimensions are (H x W x D): 43.25 x 11.5 x 12 inches (~110 x 29.2 x 30.5 cm) and the weight is 13.8 pounds (6.25 kg).
This is large and sturdy unit: handle is of foldable design to aid with the storage, while the most of the weight rests on a pair of a soft wheels.
Note: when storing the unit, be sure that both tanks are empty and completely dry, especially when storing the unit on a wooden surface.
Although FH40165 is very good in cleaning various types of dirt, it is recommended to vacuum first heavily soiled (very dirty) floors and to remove as much as possible loose dust, hair, and other dirt and debris.
One of the interesting and sometimes very useful features is picking up spills off the bare floors. It is recommended that the depth of spilled liquids is less than 1/4 inch (less than 0.6 cm) and total amount of picked up liquid is under 48 ounces (capacity of the dirty tank, obviously).
Both the cleaner nozzle and the cleaner brushes can be washed, if and when required.
Cleaning Formulas for Hoover FH40165
Using cleaning detergents significantly improve cleaning performances.
By default, unit comes with 16oz Multi Floor cleaning formula. Commonly used cleaning formulas include:
