Dyson V6 vs Dyson V7 vs Dyson V8 vs Dyson V10 vs Dyson V11 vs Dyson V15 - General Comparison
Both Dyson V7 and Dyson V8 follow the same design philosophy from the V6 models, and these vacuums are very similar. Dyson V10 and V11 follow that same philosophy too, but they also introduce a somewhat different and improved design, allowing the air to more easily pass through the vacuum itself.
Also, important differences include:
- Dyson V6: dirt bin volume 0.11 gal (0.4 liters), operating time 20 minutes (normal mode) or 6 minutes (burst mode), maximum suction power 100 Air Watts (burst mode),
- Dyson V7: dirt bin volume 0.14 gal (0.5 liters), operating time 30 minutes (normal mode) or 6 minutes (burst mode), maximum suction power 100 Air Watts (burst mode),

Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners differ in suction power, available cleaning tools, number of batteries, and other features, thus, they also differ in price.
Compare the prices:
All Dyson V6, V7, and V8 Absolute cordless vacuums come with: Direct Drive Cleaner Head, Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Mini Motorized Pet Tool.
Dyson V10 Absolute comes with Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, Mini Motorized Tool, Crevice Tool, and Combination Tool. According to Dyson, the Torque Drive Cleaner Head removes 25% more dust than Dyson V8 using Direct Drive Cleaner Head.
Dyson V11 Torque Drive comes with an improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Mini Motorized Tool, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Stubborn Dirt Brush.
Dyson V11 Outsize comes with a High Torque XL cleaner head (25% wider than Dyson V11 Torque Drive's improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head), Mini Motorized Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, Combination Tool, Stubborn Dirt Brush, and Crevice Tool. Also, Dyson V11 Outsize comes with two batteries.
Dyson V15 Detect comes with an improved High Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, Stubborn Dirt Brush, and Hair Screw Tool.
They are all powered using power fade-free lithium-ion batteries, providing different operating times for all vacuums.
However, lithium-ion batteries do differ in design, voltage, capacity, and actual chemistry. While Dyson V6's maximum motor power is 350 W, providing 100 Air Watts of maximum suction (like V7 - 100 AW), Dyson V8 (6 cells battery) comes with a 425 W motor providing 115 Air Watts of suction, Dyson V10 (7 Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminium lithium-ion cells) comes with 525 W motor providing 150 Air Watts of suction. Dyson V11 also features a power fade-free, 7-cells Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminium lithium-ion battery, but the battery is larger, supporting maximum suction of 185 Air Watts for a period of 12 minutes.
Dyson V6 Absolute vs. Dyson V7 Absolute
Dyson V6 Absolute is an older model, and it has a smaller dirt bin (0.11 vs. 0.14 gal, 0.4 vs. 0.5 liters), shorter operating time in the normal operating mode (20 vs. 30 minutes), but it is also recharged faster (3.5 vs. 4 hours) due to the battery difference, it is lighter (5.1 vs. 5.3 pounds), and it is somewhat smaller.
But, they feature the same brush bar power (75% more power when compared with Dyson V6 Cord-Free), the same operating time in the burst mode, the same maximum suction, and the same cleaning attachments.
However, Dyson V7 Absolute at the moment doesn't come with a post-motor filter, and it is not a true HEPA vacuum cleaner, while Dyson V6 Absolute does come with such a filter and features excellent true HEPA air filtration.
Dyson V6 vs V7 - Trigger and Car+Boat Models
Both Dyson V6 and V7 Trigger and Car+Boat models don't come with extension wands and are 'just' handheld units. As such, they are often used at homes as excellent cordless, handheld vacuums for quick cleanups, especially in emergencies.
Thanks to available attachments, they can be used to clean various dirt from the most common household surfaces with ease.
The following table shows the main similarities and differences between Dyson V6 and V7 Trigger and Car+Boat vacuums:

As one can see, the base V6 and V7 models are the same. The main differences are in the cleaning attachments, and the 'Car+Boat' models come with an additional Extension Hose, Mini Stiff Bristle Brush, and Mini Soft Dusting Brush.
Air suction is the same, but V7 vacuums have a longer operating time in normal mode, they have a larger dirt bin (0.5 vs 0.4 liters) and are slightly heavier, although total weight depends on the used attachment, too.
Air filtration is based on cyclonic air-dirt separation and a washable lifetime mechanical filter. Air filtration is very good, but these are not true HEPA vacuum cleaners. Note that some models of Dyson V6 vacuums come with HEPA post-motor mechanical filters and those vacuums are true HEPA vacuums.
These models include Dyson V6 Mattress, Dyson V6 HEPA, Dyson V6 Absolute, etc.
When the battery is fully discharged, it takes around 3.5 hours to charge it fully. Since these are lithium-ion batteries, they don't suffer from memory effects like older NiCd batteries (and NiMH, but to a lesser degree). Also, their self-discharge rate is negligible.
Weighing 3.4 lbs (V6) and 3.77 lbs (V7), these are not the lightest cordless handhelds on the market. A strong motor, high-capacity battery, and durable design add to the weight, but these vacuums are also ergonomically designed and are easy to use even with one hand.
When the units arrive, they require minimal assembly. Just to be sure, read the manual/instructions thoroughly before the first use.
Dyson V7 Absolute vs. Dyson V7 Motorhead
The main differences between Dyson V7 Absolute and Dyson V7 Motorhead are:
- Dyson V7 Absolute comes with both Soft Roller Cleaner Head and Direct-Drive Cleaner Head, while Dyson V7 comes 'only' with Direct-Drive Cleaner Head,
- Dyson V7 Absolute also comes with Mini Motorized (Pet) Tool and Mini Soft Dusting Brush,
- both Dyson V7 Absolute and Dyson V7 Motorhead come with a Combination Tool and Crevice Tool.
Obviously, Dyson V7 Absolute is more versatile than the Motorhead version, but it also costs more.
Both models are powered with Dyson Digital Motor V7 providing 100 Air Watts of power, with a maximum operating time of up to 30 minutes in normal mode and 6 minutes in burst mode.
The dirt bin volume is 0.14 gal, and it is highly recommended to empty it after each use.
When the battery is fully discharged, it takes around 4 hours to charge it fully.
Dyson V7 Absolute vs. Dyson V7 Animal
Dyson V7 Absolute and Dyson V7 Animal are two very similar models, with the main difference being in available cleaning tools.
Dyson V7 Animal comes with Mini Soft Dusting Brush, Crevice Tool, Motorhead Cleaning Head (direct drive cleaning head), Mini Motorhead Cleaning Head, and the Combination Tool.
Dyson V7 Absolute comes with all those cleaning tools, plus it also features Soft Roller Cleaning Head.
Obviously, Dyson V7 Animal is positioned between Dyson V7 Motorhead (featuring 'only') Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Direct Drive Cleaner Head) and Dyson V7 Absolute models.
All these models are powered with Dyson V7 digital motor, offering up to 30 minutes of operation on a single battery charge and up to 6 minutes using 'maximum suction' mode.
Note: Dyson V7 Animal comes with a blue post-motor filter housing which is usually a feature of the Dyson HEPA vacuum cleaner. However, Dyson's official website doesn't state anything if Dyson V7 Animal is a true HEPA vacuum or not.
For more reviews and recommendations, check the Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner Amazon link (the link opens in the new window).
Dyson V6 Absolute vs. Dyson V8 Absolute
When comparing Dyson V8 vs. V6, it is important to know that Dyson V6 Absolute is an older model, but it was and still is one of the best cordless vacuums on the market.
Both of these units come with Direct Drive Cleaner Head, Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Mini Motorized (Pet) Tool.
Also, both units come with a very important post-motor filter, which is responsible for achieving true HEPA air filtration levels, which can be very important for many people, especially for people having issues with asthma and allergies.
Dyson V8 has a slightly larger dirt bin (0.5 vs. 0.4 liters), but both dirt bins can be emptied quickly and easily.
Operating time in a normal mode of operation is significantly improved - 40 minutes vs. 20 minutes and this improvement is IMHO more important than the increase in suction power and operating time during max. power mode from 100 Air Watts and 6 minutes to 115 Air Watts and 7 minutes of operation.
When the Dyson V6 Cord-Free brush bar power is compared, Dyson V6 Absolute comes with a 75% brush bar power increase, and Dyson V8 Absolute comes with a 150% brush bar power increase. Such brush bar power enables deep cleaning penetration in thick carpets and rugs and vacuuming of deeply embedded and stubborn dust, hair, lint, and other dirt.
Dyson V6 Absolute is somewhat smaller and lighter than Dyson V8 Absolute.
Dyson V7 Absolute vs. Dyson V8 Absolute
Both units come with the same set of cleaning tools: Direct Drive Cleaner Head, Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Mini Motorized (Pet) Tool.
They also have dirt bins of the same size - 0.5 liters.
When comparing Dyson V8 vs. V7, it is important to know that Dyson V8 Absolute has stronger maximum suction (115 Air Watts vs. 100 Air Watts) and longer operating times in both normal mode (40 minutes vs. 30 minutes) and burst mode (7 minutes vs. 6 minutes).
However, the main difference between both Dyson V6/V8 Absolute vacuums and Dyson V7 Absolute vacuum is that V7 Absolute doesn't have a post-motor filter and thus is not a true HEPA vacuum cleaner - V7 air filtration is excellent, but I hope to see one day Dyson add post-motor air filter on V7 model, too.
Dyson V8 Absolute vs. Dyson V8 Animal
Dyson V8 Cord-Free Vacuum is a high-end convertible cordless vacuum cleaner. It is powered by a power fade-free lithium-ion battery and can be used as an upright vacuum cleaner and as a handheld vacuum cleaner. It comes with many cleaning tools and various cleaning heads and can clean various surfaces and various types of dirt and debris from the floor to the ceiling.
Dyson V8 Models - Absolute (left) and Animal (right)
At the moment, there are two Dyson V8 models available on the market: Absolute and Animal. They are practically the same units, with the only difference being that Dyson V8 Absolute comes with an additional Soft Roller Cleaner Head, while all other attachments are the same.
Note: from time to time, these vacuums can be found on sale with extra sets of cleaning tools. Since these cleaning tools are not cheap (but you do get what you pay!), check what is actually included in the package you are ordering! Also, when registering the Dyson V8 vacuum on Dyson's official site, it is possible to get a few more cleaning tools for free or at least with a large discount!
Dyson V8 Absolute and Dyson V8 Animal cleaning attachments include Direct Drive Cleaner Head, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Mini Motorized Pet Tool. As said before, Dyson V8 Absolute also features Soft Roller Cleaner Head.
Note: Dyson V8 Absolute can be found with the set of extra tools (photo to the right) - with such a set, the list of cleaning tools and attachments is very impressive: Mattress Tool, Quick Release Extension Hose, Stubborn Dirt Brush, Fluffy Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Direct Drive Cleaner Head, Electric Wand Set, Mini Motorized Tool, Soft Dusting Brush, Combination Accessory Tool, and Crevice Tool.
The list of available tools and accessories may vary over time, so be sure to check the list personally.
For the latest offers and most up-to-date prices, check Dyson V8 Absolute + Extra Tools Amazon link (link opens in the new window).
Dyson V8 cordless vacuum cleaner is one of the most powerful cordless units on the market, with excellent suction and HEPA level of air filtration, and can be used as an emergency vacuum cleaner but also as a main vacuum cleaner in smaller homes and apartments. Larger homes can use it for regular cleaning, while for large cleanings (for example, 'spring cleaning'), its autonomy might not be enough. However, its battery can be recharged rather quickly (under 5 hours).
Of course, Dyson V8 comes with a nice price tag (to say the least, but still cheaper than Dyson Cyclone V10), but like many other Dyson products, again, what you pay is what you get ...
Dyson V8 General Specifications
Dyson V8 Absolute weighs 5.75 pounds (~2.6 kg), while Dyson V8 Animal weighs 5.63 pounds (~2.55 kg).
Both units dimensions are 9.8 x 49 x 8.8 inches (~24.9 x 124.5 x 22.4 cm) and they have:
- dirt bin capacity of 0.14 gallons (~0.5 liters),
- maximum runtime of 40 minutes when non-motorized attachments are used. When motorized attachments are used, one can expect some 20-25 minutes of operation on a single battery charge.
- boost mode runtime is 7 minutes, and during those 7 minutes, Dyson V8 provides 115 Air Watts of suction - almost as corded upright units.
When not in use, the unit is stored in a wall-mount docking/charging station, ready to be used at the moment's notice. Since it is powered by a lithium-ion battery, the unit's power is 'fade-free' - as long as it works, it works at the desired level of suction. When the battery is discharged, simply place the unit back into the charging station, and after ~5 hours, your V8 will be fully charged.
Also, lithium-ion batteries don't have memory effects like old NiCd (Nickel Cadmium) batteries, so there is no need to fully discharge the unit before the next charging - after each use, return the unit to the charging station and let the unit charge again.
Note: never, but really never, charge the lithium-ion batteries with chargers designed for other battery types. In this case, use only the original Dyson charging/docking station!
Dyson V8 Air Filtration
Dyson V8 is a true HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum cleaner - it is designed to capture and remove at least 99.97% of particles 0.3 micrometers (or larger) in size from airflow.
This is very important for people having issues with asthma and allergies.
Air filtration is based on the following:
- 2 Tier Radial cyclones (15 cyclones) - arranged across two tiers and designed to generate strong centrifugal forces to spin and remove the dirt out of the airflow. All the dirt is collected into the dirt cup.
- mechanical pre-motor filter, which filters the air even more and protects the motor from possible damage due to dust particles.
- mechanical HEPA post-motor filter - the final stage of air filtration is done by HEPA grade, washable filter, helping the unit expel practically just fresh air.
Both mechanical filters are washable, but before placing them back into the unit, be sure that they are thoroughly dry!
The dirt bin is transparent and can be easily emptied when required. Personally, empty the dirt bin after each use.

Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute, Animal and Motorhead Cordless Vacuums
Dyson V10 cordless vacuum is the newest cordless vacuum from Dyson. It follows similar design philosophy to previous models, but it also introduces several important improvements.
At the moment, Dyson V10 is available as Motorhead, Animal, and Absolute models, and they differ in several details:

Dyson Cyclone V10 cordless vacuums are powered with a 7-cell lithium-ion battery based on Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminium (NCA) technology, operating at 25.2 V and being able to provide 525 W of power for 8 minutes.
Note: Unlike previous Dyson V6, V7, and V8 that have replaceable batteries, Dyson Cyclone V10 comes with a permanent battery - there is no way for the user to replace the battery.
However, Dyson Cyclone V10 comes with a 2-year limited warranty, and there are many claims that newer lithium batteries, under normal conditions, can operate easily for 5-10 years. Personally, I would really like that Dyson releases newer/future Dyson Cyclone V10 models with replaceable batteries.
One of the differences between V10 and previous models is improved airflow through the vacuum, enabling the 525W motor to provide 150 Air Watts of suction power.
Also, V10 comes with three power settings enabling the unit to operate up to 60/23/8 minutes on a single battery charge, depending on the chosen power setting.
All three models also feature the following:
- excellent air filtration is achieved by combining cyclonic dirt-air separation and mechanical air filter. Whole units are designed and engineered to be true HEPA vacuum cleaners.
- easy to clean transparent dirt bin.
- Cyclone V10 is acoustically engineered to absorb vibrations and dampen sound. However, at full throttle, they are not the most silent vacuums around - not surprisingly, since at full throttle, they are producing 150 Air Watts of suction.
- they quickly transform from stick vacuums into handhelds and vice versa.
- a wall-mounted charging station is also used for storing the cleaning attachments.
The main differences between Dyson Cyclone V10 Motorhead and Animal/Absolute models include the following:
- Dyson Cyclone V10 Motorhead has the smallest dirt bin (0.54 vs. 0.76 liters),
- instead of the Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Dyson Cyclone V10 Motorhead comes with Direct Drive Cleaner Head,
- Dyson Cyclone V10 Motorhead doesn't feature Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Mini Motorized Tool.
The main difference between Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal and Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute is that Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute also features Soft Roller Cleaner Head, with other cleaning attachments being the same.
For more reviews and recommendations, check the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute Cord Free Vacuum Amazon link (the link opens in the new window).
Compare the prices:
Dyson V8 Absolute vs. Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute
Both Dyson models are top-of-the-line cordless vacuums, and they come with nice price tags.
Thus, many people wonder what the actual difference between these two models is. Here is a quick list of the most important similarities and differences:
- maximum motor power is increased from 425W (Dyson V8) to 525W (Dyson Cyclone V10),
- maximum suction power is increased from 115 Air Watts to 150 Air Watts,
- dirt bin is increased from 0.14 gal to 0.2 gal,
- weight is also increased, but not much, from 5.75 pounds to 5.9 pounds,
- the number of power settings is increased from two to three,
- maximum operating time is increased from 40 to 60 minutes (at least in theory),
- maximum power mode operating time is also increased from 7 to 8 minutes,
- charging time is decreased from 5 to 3.5 hours.
Also, Dyson V8 Absolute comes with Direct Drive Cleaner Head, Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Mini Motorized Pet Tool.
Dyson V10 Absolute comes with a Torque Drive Cleaner Head (instead of a Direct Drive Cleaner Head), Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, Mini Motorized Tool, Crevice Tool, and Combination Tool.
According to Dyson, the Dyson V10 vacuum using Torque Drive Cleaner Head removes 25% more dust than Dyson V8 using Direct Drive Cleaner Head.
Dyson V11 Outsize vs. Dyson V11 Torque Drive vs Dyson V11 Animal
Dyson V11 generally follows the same design philosophy previously found at Dyson V10.
Dyson V11 Torque Drive and Dyson V11 Animal feature a dirt bin volume of 0.2 gals (0.76 liters), while the newer Dyson V11 Outsize comes with a 2.5x larger dirt bin of 0.5 gals (1.9 liters).
All three models feature three operating modes (Eco Mode, Auto/Med and Boost Mode), and increased Maximum suction power when compared with Dyson V10 - Dyson V11 Torque Drive and Dyson V11 Animal feature maximum suction up to 185 Air Watts, while Dyson V11 Outsize comes with maximum suction of 220 Air Watts!
![]() |
![]() |
Dyson V11 Torque Drive and Dyson V11 Animal are powered by Dyson Digital Motor V11, while Dyson V11 Outsize is powered by a new Dyson Hyperdymium motor providing larger suction (220 AW vs. 185 AW).
The dirt bin can be quickly and easily emptied directly into the trash can.
Note: never fill the dirt bin above the Max fill line.
Dyson V11 comes with three cleaning modes:
- Eco Mode features the lowest suction and the longest operating time of up to 60 minutes - with non-motorized cleaning tools, operating time is often longer than 60 minutes using one fully charged battery. Eco Mode is used for everyday, general cleaning.
- Auto mode can be used only with Torque Drive Cleaner Head which features a so-called Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS) which monitors the load on the brush bar and automatically adjust the motor power according to the surface being cleaned.
When other cleaning tools are used in this mode, Dyson V11 operates in the Medium suction cleaning mode.
Auto/Medium cleaning mode is recommended for cleaning different types of floors and when stronger suction is required.
- Boost Mode features the strongest suction, providing suction of 185/220 Air Watts (model dependent) - many 'not-so-cheap' corded units have weaker suction! Also, Boot Mode discharges the battery very fast, but thanks to the larger battery, Dyson V11 can operate in Boost Mode for up to 12 minutes using one fully charged battery, allowing the user to clean a large area quickly, even if that area is very dirty/heavily soiled.
Dyson V11 Outsize comes with a High Torque XL cleaner head (25% wider than Torque Drive's improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head), Mini Motorized Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, Combination Tool, Stubborn Dirt Brush, and Crevice Tool. Also, Dyson V11 Outsize comes with Wand Storage Clip, a Docking station, two battery chargers, and an additional click-in battery.
Dyson V11 Torque Drive comes with an improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Mini Motorized Tool, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Stubborn Dirt Brush. Also, Dyson V11 Torque Drive comes with Wand Storage Clip, a Docking station, and a battery charger.
Dyson V11 Animal comes with an improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Mini Motorized Tool, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, and Stubborn Dirt Brush. Also, Dyson V11 Animal comes with Wand Storage Clip, a Docking station, and a battery charger.
So, Dyson V11 Animal lacks Mini Soft Dusting Brush.
Note: There is also a model labeled 'Dyson V11 Outsize Origin' offered on Dyson's official website, which is very similar to the 'Dyson V11 Outsize', but it comes with only one clickable battery, only one battery charger, and it lacks a wand storage clip.
Another important difference between these two models is that Dyson V11 Outsize and Dyson V11 Torque Drive come with an LCD screen, while Dyson V11 Animal comes with an LED screen - the difference is just one letter, but in real life, the Dyson V11 LCD screen present to the user much more data than Dyson V11 Animal's LED screen.
Dyson V11 Outsize/Torque Drive's LCD screen notifies the user about cleaning mode, remaining battery charge (including the estimated operating time before the battery must be charged again), when it is time to clean the filter, etc.
The LCD screen can display information in different languages, not just English.
On the other hand, Dyson V11 Animal's LED screen is rather limited when compared with the LCD screen found at Dyson V11 Outsize/Torque Drive.
For example, Dyson V11 Animal's LED screen has three separate lights for battery charge:
- all three lights on: high battery charge,
- two lights on: medium battery charge,
- one light on: low battery charger,
- one light blinking: battery must be recharged.
As one can see, the LCD screen is much more convenient since it displays more accurate data.
Both units feature wall-mount charging/docking stations, and both units allow the unit to remain indefinitely connected to their chargers. When the battery is fully discharged, it takes ~4.5 hours to charge it again.
Dyson V11 Torque Drive and Dyson V11 Animal are designed to be true HEPA vacuums - both units filter out 99.97% of 0.3 microns or larger particles, which is very important for having a clean and safe home. Another improvement of the Dyson V11 Outsize vacuum is its ability to capture 99.99% of 0.3 microns or larger particles.
In order to keep the maintenance costs to a minimum, the exhaust filter is washable.
Note: Dyson V11 Outsize, Dyson V11 Torque Drive, and Dyson V11 Animal are easy-to-use and maintain cordless, convertible vacuum cleaners. Nonetheless, when the units arrive, be sure to thoroughly read the manual.
Compare the prices:
Dyson V8 Absolute vs. Dyson V11 Torque Drive - Dyson V8 vs. V11
Dyson V11 Torque Drive differs slightly from Dyson V8 Absolute in design - Dyson V11 follows a similar design, but it has improved airflow pathways, leading to increased efficiency.
Improved air flow combined with a stronger and more efficient motor and improved battery means that Dyson V11 features significantly stronger suction.
Other changes include a larger dirt cup, shorter battery charging time, and slightly increased weight:
- Dyson V8 Absolute: dirt bin volume 0.14 gal (0.5 liters), operating time 40 minutes (normal mode) or 7 minutes (burst mode), maximum suction power 115 Air Watts (burst mode).
- Dyson V11 Torque Drive: dirt bin volume 0.2 gal (0.76 liters), operating time up to or even slightly greater than 60 minutes (Eco Mode), and up to 12 minutes in Boost mode. The maximum suction power is 185 Air Watts (Boost Mode). The unit also features Auto/Medium suction mode.
Dyson V8 Absolute and Dyson V11 Torque Drive also differ in the list of cleaning tools and attachments:
- Dyson V8 Absolute comes with Direct Drive Cleaner Head, Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Mini Motorized (Pet) Tool,
- Dyson V11 Torque Drive: improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Mini Motorized (Pet) Tool, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Stubborn Dirt Brush.
Both Dyson V8 Absolute and Dyson V11 Torque Drive come with Mini Motorized (Pet) Tool, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, and Mini Soft Dusting Brush.
On the other hand, Dyson V8 Absolute comes with Direct Drive Cleaner Head and Soft Roller Cleaner Head, while Dyson V11 Torque Drive comes with an improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head and Stubborn Dirt Brush.
Improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head (V11) is a better cleaner head when compared with Direct Drive Cleaner Head (V8) - this doesn't mean that Direct Drive Cleaner Head is not a good cleaning tool. Simply put, an improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head is better.
Stubborn Dirt Brush is used for vacuuming/cleaning sticky, dried, and other stubborn messes from different surfaces and may come in rather handy, not only for people with pets and kids. Dyson V8 doesn't feature it, but other tools may be used instead of it.
Soft Roller Cleaner Head that comes with Dyson V8 Absolute is IMHO better cleaner head for sensitive bare floors like laminate, hardwood floors and similar than the improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head, making the Dyson V8 Absolute cheaper alternative than Dyson V11 Torque Drive as the hardwood vacuum cleaner.
Another important difference is that Dyson V11 Torque Drive features an LCD screen for presenting all relevant information about the vacuum to the user, while Dyson V8 Absolute comes with individual signal LEDs.
For Short: When Dyson V8 Absolute appeared on the market, it easily outclassed practically all other cordless units, including Dyson V7. Dyson V8 Absolute was and still is an excellent cordless vacuum, especially when found on sale with extra cleaning tools.
On the other hand, Dyson V11 Torque Drive brings performances of cordless units on another level, very close to performances of corded vacuums.

Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute vs. Dyson V11 Torque Drive - Dyson V10 vs. V11
Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute and Dyson V11 Torque Drive are two very similar cordless units that differ in color, suction, available cleaning tools, and a few more important details.
- Dyson V10 Absolute: dirt bin volume 0.2 gal (0.76 liters), operating time up to 60 minutes (lowest power), up to 23 minutes (medium-power), up to 8 minutes (burst mode), maximum suction power 150 Air Watts (burst mode).
Dyson V11 also features Auto/Medium suction mode.
Another important difference is that Dyson V11 Torque Drive features an LCD screen (Dyson V11 Animal features LED screen) for presenting all relevant information about the vacuum to the user, which is very helpful not just during cleaning but also when some maintenance tasks have to be done.
Both units come with a respectable list of cleaning tools and attachments:
- Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute comes with Soft Roller Cleaner Head, Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Mini Motorized (Pet) Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, Crevice Tool, and Combination Tool,
- Dyson V11 Torque Drive comes with an improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Mini Motorized (Pet) Tool, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Stubborn Dirt Brush.
Both Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute and Dyson V11 Torque Drive feature a Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Mini Motorized (Pet) Tool.
On the other hand, Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute comes with Soft Roller Cleaner Head and Torque Drive Cleaner Head, while Dyson V11 Torque Drive comes with an improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head and Stubborn Dirt Brush.
As said before, Stubborn Dirt Brush is used for cleaning/vacuuming various sticky and dry stubborn (hence the name) messes, and it is not featured on Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute - if needed, other cleaning tools may be used instead of it.
Soft Roller Cleaner Head (V10) is a better cleaning tool than Direct Drive Head (V8), but it is not as good as the improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head (V11) - personally, cleaning differences are not that obvious.
Soft Roller Cleaner Head (V10) is an excellent cleaner head for sensitive bare floors, and it is not part of the Dyson V11 cleaning tools and attachments list. Dyson V11 may use an improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head for cleaning bare floors, including hardwood and laminate floors, but personally, Soft Roller Cleaner Head (V10) is a slightly better choice.
If you are looking for a cordless vacuum cleaner for vacuuming mostly sensitive bare floors, Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute is perhaps a better choice than Dyson V11 Torque Drive.

As one can see, Dyson V11 Torque Drive features maximum suction of 185 Air Watts, the Dyson V11 Outsize 220 Air Watts, and the Dyson V15 230 Air Watts.
Of course, this suction improvement was also due to the improvements in the lithium battery and the suction motor.
When comparing Dyson V15 with the Dyson V11 models, it is important to note the following:
- all three models feature Eco Mode, Auto Mode, and Boost Mode,
- also, all three models feature LCD screens that display all the relevant information to the user,
- Dyson V15 Detect and Dyson V11 Torque Drive feature a dirt cup of 0.2 gallons, while the Dyson V11 Outsize features a dirt cup of 0.5 gallons - 0.5 gallons dirt cup is even larger than the dirt cups on many upright vacuums.
- Dyson V15 is slightly heavier than Dyson V11 Torque Drive but lighter than Dyson V15 Outsize,
- Dyson V15 is more compact than Dyson V11 Outsize and very similar in size to Dyson V11 Torque Drive,
- Dyson V15 and Dyson V11 Torque Drive come with one battery, while Dyson V11 Outsize comes with two batteries.
Also, it is important to know the list of cleaning tools:
- Dyson V11 Torque Drive comes with Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Mini Motorized Tool, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Stubborn Dirt Brush,
- Dyson V11 Outsize comes with a High Torque XL Cleaner Head, Mini Motorized Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, a Combination Tool, a Stubborn Dirt Brush, and Crevice Tool.
- Dyson V15 Detect comes with an improved High Torque Drive Cleaner Head, Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head, Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, Stubborn Dirt Brush, and Hair Screw Tool.
As one can see, all three units feature a Combination Tool, Crevice Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, and Stubborn Dirt Brush.
However, Dyson V15 Detect comes with an improved High Torque Drive Cleaner Head (which is somewhat narrower than the "older" High Torque XL Cleaner Head), it comes with an excellent Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head, and it comes with Hair Screw Tool, which is an improvement over Mini Motorized Tool that comes with Dyson V11 Torque Drive/Outsize.
Dyson V11 and V15 cordless vacuum cleaners differ in suction power, available cleaning tools, number of batteries, etc. Thus, they also differ in price:

Dyson V6, V7, V8, V10, and V11 Cleaning Attachments
Cleaning attachments for Dyson cordless vacuums can be changed quickly and easily. Attachments use connecting mechanism (not just friction), which must 'click' in order to have the attachment properly connected.
The most noticeable attachment is, of course - the wand. Removing the wand, Dyson cordless vacuum transforms from a cordless upright vacuum cleaner into a powerful cordless handheld vacuum cleaner.
As an upright vacuum cleaner, Dyson V6/V7/V8/V10/V11 can clean rather large areas, especially when using motorized cleaning heads - they shorten the operating time on a single battery charge but improve cleaning significantly.
As the handheld units, Dyson V6/V7/V8/V10/V11 can be used as an excellent vacuum for stairs, upholstery, cars, boats, and all similar areas and surfaces that are often hard to reach and clean.
Note: Not all models come with all cleaning attachments. Also, when ordering attachments, be sure that they fit your exact model.
Soft Roller Cleaning Head
Soft woven nylon fibers are designed to trap larger debris, while carbon fibers remove small particles of dust and debris. Soft Roller Cleaning Head is designed for cleaning hard floors. |
Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head
One of the very interesting features of the Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head is the LED laser that helps the user spot and clean floor dirt, saving time and effort. Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head comes with Dyson V15 Detect. |
Direct Drive/Torque Drive Cleaner Head
It contains stiff nylon bristles for removing deeply embedded dirt and pet and human hair. It is a motorized cleaning attachment, and just like Soft Roller Cleaning Head shortens the runtime of the vacuum cleaner on a single battery charge. Note: Torque Drive Cleaner Head comes with Dyson V10 Absolute and Animal, while Dyson V10 Motorhead comes with Direct Drive Cleaner Head. Also, Dyson V11 Torque Drive comes with an improved Torque Drive Cleaner Head featuring so-called Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS) technology that monitors the brush bar resistance 360x per second and adjusts the motor speed accordingly. Similarly, Dyson V11 Outsize comes with a High Torque XL Cleaner Head, which is some 25% wider, enabling the user to clean larger areas faster. Dyson V15 Detect features a High Torque Cleaner Head, which is an improved version of the similar cleaner head that comes with the Dyson V11 Torque Drive. |
Hair Screw Tool
Hair Screw Tool features a powered brushroll with tangle-free technology, helping the user to clean pet hair, lint, fibers, and other stubborn dirt from smaller carpeted and upholstered surfaces, like stairs, smaller rugs, pet beds, sofas, and similar. The Hair Screw Tool comes with Dyson V15 Detect. |
Quick Release Mini Motorized Tool
It is mostly used in handheld mode and where larger cleaner heads can't reach due to their width. Quick Release Mini Motorized Tool is an excellent cleaning tool for cleaning smaller areas of carpets, stairs, upholstery, car interiors, and similar. |
Quick Release Combination Tool
The debris tool is suitable for cleaning crumbs and similar larger debris, while the brush tool is suitable for cleaning dust and other small dirt and debris. It is an unpowered cleaning tool, requiring no extra power from the battery. |
Quick Release Crevice Tool
It is often used for cleaning upholstery, between seats and cushions, stairs, and similar. It is also an unpowered cleaning tool, requiring no extra power from the battery. |
Soft Dusting Brush
Soft Dusting Brush is an excellent cleaning tool for smaller surfaces like tables and desks, cars, boats, fans, keyboards, bookshelves, and similar. It is also an unpowered cleaning tool, requiring no extra power from the battery. |
Other Dyson Attachments
There are also many other vacuum cleaner attachments and cleaning kits available for Dyson cordless vacuums. If required, they can be ordered separately, or they can be included as part of promotional offers and similar.
Long Story Short - Dyson cordless vacuums are excellent cordless vacuum cleaners that come with a very nice price tag.
Also, there are many much cheaper cordless 2-in-1 vacuums that convert from upright/stick into handheld vacuums.
However, if you do need a high-end, cordless vacuum cleaner and you don't mind paying a little bit more, then look no further: Dyson V6, V7, V8, V10, V11, and V15 have excellent suction, a large number of attachments, many models have true HEPA air filtration, low maintenance costs, etc.
Also, they are lightweight and can be easily used even by elderly people or kids (under the supervision of adults, of course). Although cordless, they can be used as main vacuum cleaners in smaller homes and apartments or can be used as second vacuum cleaners for quick cleanups when required.
